Short answer, inverter clipping happens when your inverters are rated lower than the peak power you’re able to produce with your solar panels. When your panels produce at their highest level, your inverters may not be able to match, and will “clip” your production. It’s infrequent that all conditions come together to allow for peak production, so sizing up your inverters to match that infrequent high point is often not economical. This calculation is specific to each homeowner’s situation– your solar consultant will help you decide on the best setup for your goals.
